Transforming Cocoa Landscapes: From Grassroots Nursery to Global Markets

Empowering smallholder farmers, restoring aging plantations, and safeguarding Cameroon’s tropical forests.

CICTRANS cocoa and nursery initiative
THE CHALLENGE

Across Cameroon’s Southwest Region, smallholder farmers face a critical dilemma: aging cocoa plantations and declining soil fertility are driving down yields year after year. To survive, many producers clear virgin tropical forests in search of fertile land, accelerating deforestation and climate vulnerability.

CICTRANS is reversing this trend starting at the root. Located in Kumba, our flagship Multipurpose Nursery Project serves as an agricultural innovation hub designed to revitalize existing farms, protect biodiversity, and lift rural communities out of poverty sustainably.

OUR INTEGRATED INTERVENTION

An end-to-end support model for local farmers.

Through strategic partnerships with national research institutions, CICTRANS delivers an end-to-end support model for local farmers.

01

Climate-resilient planting stock

Supplying high-yield, disease-tolerant cocoa seedlings engineered to withstand erratic weather patterns and pests.

02

Farm rejuvenation & good agricultural practices (GAP)

Training farmers in eco-friendly agronomy, pruning, and soil health management to rehabilitate old orchards without clearing new forests.

03

Post-harvest quality control

Guiding farmers through standardized fermentation and solar drying techniques to guarantee premium-grade beans.

04

Fair market linkages

Enhancing collective marketing strategies to secure transparent, competitive prices for cocoa and diversified farm crops.

FUTURE-PROOFING CAMEROON’S COCOA FOR GLOBAL COMPLIANCE

Building a fully compliant, future-ready supply chain.

In collaboration with government agencies and private sector partners, CICTRANS is building a fully compliant, future-ready supply chain.

01

Traceability & polygon mapping

Geolocation of farm plots and unit-area productivity tracking to guarantee transparent origin data.

02

EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) compliance

Equipping farmers across the Southwest Region to fulfill international due diligence requirements, unlocking direct access to premium, high-value European markets.
